Kapotte Muziek

Kapotte Muziek began in 1984 as the solo noise project of Frans de Waard. From 1993 to 1995, the name referred primarily to the live duo of de Waard and THU20 member Peter Duimelinks, after which Roel Meelkop joined to make it a trio. In 2003, the last solo de Waard studio album under the Kapotte Muziek banner, a CDr called Curing Without Killing, was published, after which de Waard used the KM name only for performances and live recordings by the trio. For his solo work, de Waard now uses the names Freiband (for computer music). He also performs in the pop band Beequeen and its drone alter ego Wander, as well as countless other bands, collaborations, and solo projects.

For their live performances, the Kapotte Muziek trio explores the minimum input of acoustic sound to a maximum extent. Every performance is preceded by a ‘junk search’ to obtain new sound material. In the past, they have used metal (from very small bits to extremely large metal sheets), wood, paper, plastic, glass, stones, and more. Each object is thoroughly explored for its sonic qualities, and amplified by various kinds of microphones and loudspeakers. These sounds are combined live with recordings of acoustic, environmental and electronic origin.

Since 1993, Kapotte Muziek have played more than 100 concerts around the world, including performances in the USA, Canada, Japan, and most European countries. They have played in art galleries, museums, squats, radio stations and rock clubs.
