Lethe

Kuwayama Kiyoharu, who records both under his given name and as Lethe, is known for finding intensely resonant spaces or charged atmospheres: abandoned warehouses, Shinto temples, mausoleums, factories. It is in those kinds of extremely resonant spaces that Kuwayama has recorded his signature works, the Catastrophe Point series; full of the empty rattle of abandoned industrial space, and the carefully constructed scrape and clang of objects found around each location.

In addition to his Lethe music, Kuwayama has recorded free improvisation on cello and electronics. He is half of the Kuwayama-Kijima duo, along with violinist Rina Kijima, and has hosted an annual festival, Lethe-Voice, in Nagoya, Japan.
