"There is no noise or experimental music scene in Hamilton. There’s no community of people working together or towards anything."

Huh? The New Harbours series at Chris Church Cathedral has been running since 2008, putting on at least six experimental music shows per year. There seems to be a large group of people involved. And there's a new experimental music series that started up more recently.

Nice to hear that an artist I admire struggles with some of the same life decisions./trade-offs. I am a high school English teacher and I can vouch for the fact that teaching, especially when you are just starting out, is a bottomless pit demanding time and energy. I have no regrets with my career choice and enjoy it more every year, but it can definitely be frustrating when a pile of student papers stands between you and your art. However, as you also suggest, having limited time and resources can add to your "need" to create. I cringe to think of how I spent my free time in college when I had all the time in the world.

I think it's time for a new direction in your work - Emil Beaulieau impressions. Seriously though, this could be an opportunity to try something new that you'd always been a little intimidated to do; e.g. an entire set of microphone feedback, a semi-acoustic set using pieces of metal and the walkmans (built-in speakers only), a set of dealy feedback (if it still works) etc. Moments like this can be frightening but also liberating and end up as some of your own favorite sets.
